An IT professional by training, he learned that Countersync, originally started in 2002, was available for sale. He purchased the business 2 1/year or so ago and recently moved it on the corner of Jones and 13th streets to 2014 Westside Court off River Watch Parkway in Augusta.
Countersync focuses primarily on solid surface countertops for the office and home. The business enterprise sells DuPont Corian and LG Hi-Macs brands.
Before entering the concept of countertops, Phillips worked in corporate IT for 33 years, at Cummins Mid-South and J. Ray McDermott in New Orleans and The Babcock & Wilcox Co. and Augusta Sportswear in Augusta.
Phillips said he desired to get free from the “IT corporate jungle” of answering e-mails continually for the day.
“It’s an alteration. I’m a fresh small business operator,” Phillips said. “I quite like coming to work every day. You will find certainly challenges and opportunities in existence, so we’re not where we want to be. But we’re pointed in the right direction. The long run is before us.”
Countersync’s clients include Doctors Hospital, Evans Stadium Cinemas and people who just love homes, houseboats and motor homes. The business enterprise has six employees.
Phillips gives a benefits arrange for his employees. “I do believe that’s of importance to us like a company,” Phillips said. “I need this as a good career and a good opportunity for employees. I would like us all to be successful therein.”
Phillips said he offers quality products. Solid surface countertops are manufactured primarily of bauxite clay, aluminum and acrylic.
“Many of these products are stated in the U.S.,” Phillips said. “The largest difference in this product plus a stone method is that it’s nonporous – meaning that if you put a piece of chicken within this countertop, pick it up and wipe it off, it’s gone. There are several options that are difficult to do that has a stone-type product.”
Solid surface countertops are available in many colors and patterns. There're durable, stain resistant, repairable and let the purchaser to integrate features including drain boards, he was quoted saying.
“There’s more craftsmanship involved. It’s higher than a slab with a hole in it,” Phillips said. “It’s almost woodworking. We could do turns, corners, radiuses and edges.”
As you move the clients are aimed at countertops, it recently merged with Sullivan Cabinets in Lexington, S.C., to present Marsh Cabinets.
“Many times, anybody visit the doorway, they need your cabinet along with the countertop, so that’s why we’re in a position to now offer that,” Phillips said.
He believes it is a lot of potential for the business enterprise inside shower market. A shop has decided to carry showers using a solid-surface pan, floor and wall and no grout or tile lines.
Phillips made a decision to proceed to the revolutionary location because he needed more space for the showroom plus much more parking.
He was quoted saying he loves dealing with his diverse customer base.
“I do believe our reputation is unquestionably growing. I think we are doing the correct things,” he explained.
